Does your kitty like belly rubs?

Mine HATES them. She'll bite you if you try to get anywhere near her belly. She tummy is definitely a 'no pet' zone, although she has occasionally requested it for a few seconds only.

Dolores is a grouch and if I was to rub her adorable furry stomach, I would be clawed to ribbons. I've tried in the past and it didn't go over well. It's too bad because cat bellies are pretty cute.

    They are cute, huh?

I think ours really started hating it after we had her fixed. That area was sore and then really itchy when the hair started coming back in. They shaved her again when we took her in to be declawed (by accident....they had it written down wrong and thought they were spaying her). It's miserable when hair starts growing back in, so I think she just despises that area being messed with at all.

My cat will kick you with his bag legs if you belly rub him for too long. It's cute at first because he looks like he is saying "Stop it" but then it just starts to hurt.

My cat loves belly rubs! He sometimes plays "catch the hand" where he kicks me, put its all playful and he grabs my hand, pulls it down to his mouth and starts licking it.

    Here he is in bed:

My cats are exactly like the picture. They only like their bellies rubbed for a certain period of time. After that, they'll flip on over to their side and meow. It's quite cute actually, even if it is rather insulting.

    Oh I know that game!

Except for me, it's with claws....and teeth instead of licking.

So really, it's not so much a 'game' as it is a 'war' to see how quickly I can get my hand out of there.

I have one cat that seems to be autistic and he loves getting his belly rubbed. Only problem is that if you stop he'll harass you until you continue. Rub up all over you, lick your face with a tongue that seems to be made of sandpaper, and do that massage thing while seemingly being unaware that he has nails.

My newest adopted kitten absolutely hates it. If you rub his belly even for a second he'll latch on to you as if you were threatening his life. Since he's so young he hasn't really learned that nails and biting hurts so man does it hurt.

I love them all to death though

Its funny my cat has a routine. Every morning after choirs he starts pestering my husband until he sits down on the couch so he can lay in his lap and get his belly rub. He is very insistant. My husband spoils the heck out of him. I think its a good stress reducing for my husband to.

I thought it was just my cat who disliked her belly rubbed. I guess more than just my cat doesn't like her belly rubbed. If you touch her stomach she will meow, try to claw you and run away. I just thought it was because her belly was sensitive after she had been spayed. It seems about half of the cats like their belly rubbed, and half of them do not.

Trying to place your hand anywhere near my cats bellies when they are laying on their backs is about as wise as sticking your hand into a bear trap. They don't really like it at all either. Both of them didn't like getting pet period when we first got them. Now they are warming up to us and seeking out attention more and more. But their stomachs are still off limits.

Sibyl is incredibly indecisive. She'll let me put her belly and purr, then out of nowhere she'll start scratching me. If I stopped petting her because of the pain from the claws, she'll act like she wants me to pet her belly again. It's a never-ending cycle, I swear.

That's interesting. Some kind of love-hate relationship I suppose. She probably loves belly rubs. Otherwise she wouldn't ask for it. Then when she gets a belly rub, the pleasure is so intense that she simply can't stand it. So she scratches you. No idea really. Just an armchair cat psychologist making a wild guess.

Hey, it's a better theory than I could come up with! That's logical at least.
