We have two cats, Angel is 12 years old and she is a very dominant cat. We got her as a kitten from a shelter. We got a Persian kitten about 4 years ago who is rather shy, named Puff. She has a habit of urinating on the carpet, but she poops in the cat box. We don't know what to do! So we put a new cat box in the three places Puff was having her accidents.( Angel only uses the original cat box, and Puff uses the other three.) But Puff is still having these accidents. We've even tried different types of cat litter but that didn't work. Does anyone have any suggestions?

If you're able, I'd suggest having a vet check Puff out, just for peace of mind. Cats urinate outside of the box for a number of health issues and it's always better to know what's going on for sure. Diabetes comes to mind first (that's what it was in our case) but urinary problems can cause it... even things like arthritis when it's hard to get in the box (although since she's using it for "#2" :D it's probably not that.) There are some kidney, thyroid, and liver ailments that can cause them to do that, too.

Also, you may want to get a product like I found to spray on the rug where she's gone before.. you saturate it, blot it, let it dry, and it removes the odor so the cat doesn't smell it and thinks it's fine to go there again.

Welcome to the forums! :) I agree with the above that it is always a good idea to check for problems first, and then tackle the behaviour if it is still happening once you have the all clear. What have you tried so far?

We have taken her to the vet and he didn't find any problems. He suggested the multiple cat boxes. We cleaned the area and sprayed the area with a spray that's supposed to discourage going there again. At that time we moved the cat box to another area and the same thing happened there. And she has also gone back to the first area.
