One of my cats, Mouth, is a very nervous cat. Doesn't like to be touched very much, except by me and my husband, and tends to hiss at strangers. I usually just warn people away from him and let him take his time deciding if he wants to be friendly. Yesterday though he went nuts!

I had my mother, sister and her two children over doing some work on my house. Mouth knew them all from previous visits and such (if a cat's memory is that good), and they had all been over Friday and Saturday as well. I don't know what got into him but all of a sudden he just attacked my sister! He bit the heck out of her ankle and then jumped on her back scratching and biting. I got him off of her and calmed him down pretty quick. I sent everyone outside until I had him in another room and calm. I left him and his brother in the bedroom until we were done for the day; packed his food and water and the litter box in there with them.

The only thing I can think of is that he got too stressed and just snapped. My sister was a good sport and wasn't hurt too much and after a while we sort of laughed and said I have my own little attack cat. ;)

Maybe your sister smelled weird for Mouth or she did something (a noise e.g.) he didn't like very much. We don't see and don't hear most of the thing our cats do.
I don't believe in attacking without a reason, although I'm not a specialist and sometimes I don't understand my cats as well.

The only thing I can think of is Mouth probably thinks he's a dog... or your sister's ankle just looked like a good piece of fish. Sorry, if I offended you, but in all seriousness, there must be something that triggered Mouth. I have never heard of a cat went crazy before, just dogs, mostly.

LOL! No offense. I think he just got too stressed out. He is a very nervous cat to start with. He doesn't like anyone touching him much except me and he wakes up and tenses at every little sound. He has been fine ever since and both my sister and my nieces have been here again. No freaking out again. We were doing a lot of house work and making a lot of noise that day and a few days before. I just over stimulated him I think.

Okay, that's good to know. It was probably a one-time thing. I'm pretty sure he didn't mean it. Do you know why cats get nervous or why some are nervous?

Honestly I don't know. I mean if there has been trauma to the cat, abuse, or even just a basic lack of social interaction it can cause the cat to be a more nervous cat but to my knowledge Mouth never had any of these things. From what my sister said he was always right next to his mother. Whenever she moved he meowed, that of course was the first indication of what we should name him. :D

Now that I know how he reacts I will be more cautious about the stressful sounds and actions. Does that mean no more house repair?! That might be nice, lol! :p

LOL Mocha! I was thinking the exact same thing! I kept thinking "What would Jackson Galaxy do?" This kitty needs to be socialized a little more and needs his space. Maybe give him a kitty tree so he can feel away from the crowd when guests come over?

Woah! It sounds like mouth snapped really bad! I hope your sister is OK and that's just a one time thing. You should be really careful when there are little children around, because this kind of little attacks can end in tragedy when a small child is involved.
