Pussington last night, as doing this way more than usual. She LOVES to rub the side of her face, specifically right along her teeth onto anything! She was rubbing up and down my laptop last night.

If she is sitting down and you point to her face, and leave a single finger pointing at her, she will start rubbing her teeth / side of mouth along it.

Is this normal? Should I be concerned? Does anyone else's cat do this?

    Has she always done it?

Ours do this, too, so I see it as normal. Maybe the areas itch. Or maybe they just feel good to be rubbed. I'm not sure, but unless it's something that Pussington has just started doing, then I wouldn't be concerned.

Pussington used to be such a little princess. She wouldn't allow us to pet her as much, and would never approach us for cuddles up until about a few months ago (well maybe 6 months) now she is so demanding !! Bandit doesn't do it so I was worried maybe she had bad teeth, or some sort of infection etc, but if other cats do it, that is a relief!

Sounds like she's just being affectionate. Dusty does this and so does Sassy, Dusty more-so than his mom. I don't think there's anything wrong with it as long as they're not rubbing on anything that could hurt them.:)

My cat loves to rub the side of his mouth against the corner of books and magazines. I had to move all of the books off of my coffee table. Now he starts chewing things and I always see little bite marks on my books. I now let him brush his teeth on his brush bristles whenever I groom him.

She loves rubbing it on the side of my laptop, and even having a little gnaw as well. But it seems she is just like all your cats! Which is good, yay she is normal!

Sibyl does this with the top of her head and under her chin and always has. If it's the same thing she does, I say it's simply because it feels nice to her! I think your kitty is doing the same thing. Some cats just like to be scratched in certain places and will do anything to get it!

Actually, cats have scent glands along their tail, on their lips, between their front paws, on their chin, and each side of their face. Cats are very territorial, and want everything to be theirs, even you. When they rub any of these areas on you and other objects, they are leaving their scent on you or that object to mark it as theirs. This is like when cats (or dogs) spray urine. They are naturally territorial creatures, so they mark their territory all the time. They also use these scent glands to pick up scents as well as leave them. So, when they rub on you, they are just marking you as theirs! It's sort of sweet when you think about it.:)

Yes! Sebby is exactly the same. When i'm on my laptop he rubs that whisker part of his face on the corners, even when I have the earphone wire in it. He just rubbed his face on it, started chewing and I had to buy a new set of earphones, lol. Little devil.

Oh wow! I wasn't aware of those facts. So when they are in my eyes trying to itch themselves, they are really marking me as their territory, haha. That is just too cute.:)

I would not worry about it. She is just being loving. Cats tend to rub themselves on people and things they like. They are just grooming themselves and it is harmless. As tkd mentions, they are also marking their territory. So Pussington is just telling everyone that you and your laptop belong to her!

I wouldn't worry about it at all. It's perfectly normal for some cats. My female cat is thw only cat out of my three that do this, but she does it all the time. She is really prissy and loves attention, and she will get it no matter what. So, even if I'm not petting her, she will make sure something is. Sometimes it can even get annoying when I'm trying to work on my laptop and she is constantly rubbing her face up against it and making it close. I still love her though. But, as I was saying, no need to worry at all. This behavior is perfectly normal.

I think I'm right saying cats have scent glands along the side of the face, where we would call the cheeks. All they are doing is leaving their scent on "their" property.

My cat loves rubbing its face everywhere too and purrs so much while doing it. It definitely enjoys it and it is common too. I just wish that when it is rubbing its body against me, the fur wouldn't stick to my clothes. There have been times when I am having breakfast, ready to leave and after rubbing itself on my leg, there is cat fur everywhere.
