I have a cat with allergies, Marty, who needs constant prednisone pills. He has to be medicated every other day to keep him from digging himself open. Our vet said it was a food allergy but after years of trial and error with foods made from radically different bases I have come to the conclusion he does not know what he's talking about. There is no way the animal is allergic to EVERYTHING. I was wondering if any of you had a cat with skin allergies and what types of things you noticed set them off? I'm trying to figure out if maybe it's something we're using around the house or pollen or what?

Its possible the cat could be allergic to corn or something, but I feel like this would cause gastro-intestonal issues rather than just skin flair ups. My guy cannot digest some sort of meat protein, I am leaning towards pork right now, and when he has a flair up he is full on pooping blood! We ended up on a grain free, limited ingredient diet.

It could be the cat is allergic to a plant, or even your fabric softener etc, in your house.

I would try keeping the cat clean, and maybe even try switching to natural cleaners around the house for a while to see if that helps. Right now I only clean with vinegar..and I make my own laundry detergent...nothing to do with the cats, just trying some new things out..

I tried him on pea based foods as well, figuring it could be a grain allergy. I also do not use fabric softeners nor have house plants because I'm allergic to something in the softeners and afraid the cats will eat the plants. Trying new cleaning products is something I hadn't considered though. Is there a particular ratio of vinegar to other things you use? Is it effective?
