I have come across pictures a few times online of hairless cats that have been tattooed and I have the opinion that tattooing a cat should be considered abuse. I'm certain the cat is put to sleep first, however it still has to awaken to itching and discomfort. Additionally, I believe that it's done as a form of vanity which in a sense makes the act even worse.

Ugh, no. I don't think it's okay at all. You're right that they probably don't feel it and really, the itching will likely go away after a while....but the cat isn't choosing to do that at all and there's no reason for it other than to parade it around as an art or conversation piece. I don't approve.

I hate seeing pets with tattoos or piercings. It just seems really cruel and should be illegal. I hope this cruelty comes to and end. Those poor animals.

I can't believe anyone would tattoo an animal of any kind but particularly not a cat! I agree it is a form of abuse, absolutely disgusting.

I agree that this type of thing is abuse. i feel if cat owners want to put a fake one on their cat, then, I might think that's alright to consider/ I feel every living thing should have the right to say if they want a tattoo on their body. This type of thing could cause their cat to be in pain at different times. The person that puts the tattoo on the cat may accidentally hit a nerve wrong, then, permanent nerve damage might happen.

Agreed. It's pure unadulterated abuse. There really must be an Animal Bill of Rights. Animals are living beings, not toys.

I definitely think that is should be considered abuse. It's not like the cat wanted to be tattooed. I think it's wrong for a cat owner to do that. The poor kitties. It kind of makes me think of owners that dye their pets fur. I hate that as well. Why can't the person just love the pet the way it is instead of trying to change it?

Good question. Just like when people get married, why can't they just accept their partner as-is where-is instead of trying to re-engineer their spouse into something which fits into their idea of an ideal spouse?

I think because they get wrapped up in thinking of it like a person or an accessory even. People get tattoos, dye their hair, wear clothes, etc, so they try to do those things with their pets, too, even though it can often be inappropriate and uncomfortable. They just don't think unfortunately. :(

I think some people do not really think of their pets as living things. They probably view their pets more as animated toys. That may explain why they do some of those things to their pets.

That makes me feel really sorry for those cats :( Yes, I would also consider this a form of abuse. This is clearly a situation where the owners are not terribly concerned about the comfort of their cats and rather look up on them as something to show off.

That's so sad. Why would you put your cat through that pain in torture.
