Why do you think cats like boxes so much?

So, I've always wondered why cats love boxes so much. Even my Bob loves them! I've seen several pics that suggest that even big cats love them:

 

Both of my cats loved boxes. Any kind of box that was in the house even if they were a little too big for it. I am not sure why they like boxes so much. Maybe it is the scent of the cardboard or maybe it is because they like to curl up in tight space to be cozy. I had a small box for one to sleep in with a towel in the bottom for comfort. He always slept in it and was cozy.

 

I read a theory on this a long time ago This theory stated that cats love boxes because they make them feel safe and protected. It makes sense, even for the biggest cats
